Bells of Dunblane
Le 13 mars 1996, Thomas Hamilton, chômeur de 43 ans, ancien boutiquier, ouvre le feu sur les élèves d’une école primaire de la ville de Dunblane (Ecosse).
Il tire à 109 reprises tuant 16 enfants âgés de quatre à six ans ainsi que leur institutrice, avant de se suicider.
C’est à ce jour le plus important homicide d’enfants du Royaume-Uni.
Pour tenter de l’oublier, le gymnase de l’école où le drame s’est déroulé a été démoli le 11 avril 1996 et remplacé par un jardin commémoratif.
En mémoire de cette tragédie, le pipe major Robert Mathieson du "Shotts and Dykehead pipe band" composa cet air lent qu’il dédia aux victimes et à leurs proches. Il l’appela « les cloches de Dunblane » parce que les cloches de la cathédrale sonnèrent longtemps en hommage aux victimes contrastant avec le silence ambiant des gens encore sous le choc.
